Canada and Portugal have an established and growing trade and investment relationship despite Portugal’s slow emergence from the global financial crisis in 2008-2009. Portugal’s economy continues to progress in its transition from traditional, resource-based industries to knowledge-intensive, high value-added industries. As with most modern economies, trade is of high importance to Portugal’s market and the potential for Canadian companies is average. While Canada has focused largely on exporting to the Agrifood and Seafood industries in Portugal, EDC sees business and investment potential across a range of sectors.
