Canadian investment in Japan is significant and diverse with over 100 companies having a permanent presence in the market. This is due in large to Japan's exceptional business environment which boasts excellent infrastructure, a strong rule of law and stringent property rights protection. Additionally, Japan's high standard of education has produced a highly technical and skilled workforce. Despite these advantages, corruption within the public sector and high corporate tax rates are seen as impediments to investment. The government has also demonstrated its reluctance to accommodate foreign investment in the country's protected industries (i.e. energy, defense, rail, telecoms, broadcasting)
