ESG Advisory Council

As a bridge between the public and private sectors, we play an important role in bringing together diverse groups to both leverage opportunities and help address the challenges faced by Canadian businesses, both at home and abroad.

Our stakeholders

Through extensive engagement with our stakeholder groups, including financial partners, customers, industry and trade associations, civil society organizations and employees, we learn from, and welcome, the different perspectives they bring.

Expect us to:

  • Consider and prioritize the international competitiveness of Canadian companies.

Expect us to:

  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainable and responsible business.
  • Align with the Government of Canada’s commitments to mitigate climate change and respect human rights.
  • Place restrictions on the level of risk accepted in transactions.
  • Increase our transparency and disclosure practices.

Expects us to:

  • Act on the priorities outlined in the annual Statement of Priorities and Accountabilities and report on how EDC is addressing the policy priorities of the Government of Canada.
  • Align with international best practices relating to environmental, social and governance (ESG).
  • Deliver on our net zero commitments.

Expect us to:

  • Share experiences and help advance best practices with other financial institutions and export credit agencies.
  • Help advance international rules and level the playing field for the global use of export credits.
  • Represent the voice of Canadian exporters.

Expect us to:

  • Provide opportunities to have a positive impact on Canada and Canadians.
  • Maintain high standards of ethics, integrity and responsible business.
  • Foster an inclusive, diverse and equitable (ID&E) workplace.
  • Offer learning and development opportunities.

Staying connected

We stay connected to our stakeholders through regular consultations, surveys and meetings, as well as direct outreach and feedback channels.

ESRM Policy Framework review

At least once every three years, we carry out a review of our Environmental Social Risk Management Framework policies. This involves extensive stakeholder consultation to help us identify ways to better align our policies with best practices, stakeholder needs and emerging risks.

Civil Society Organizations Panel

This panel brings together CSOs to discuss of EDC’s mandate, products and services, as well as our approach to due diligence and risk management. It is also an opportunity for us to hear directly from CSOs as part of our ongoing dialogue.
