Who are we?

Export Development Canada (EDC) is Canada’s export credit agency, wholly owned by the Government of Canada. We help Canadian companies to sustainably and responsibly navigate, manage and take on risk, so they can succeed in global markets and contribute to strengthening the Canadian economy.

Many of Canada’s medium-sized companies are developing future-forward solutions needed in both new and traditional industries. These companies have already proven they can grow. We want to help accelerate their growth and, in so doing, also scale up high-potential sectors to support Canada’s future trade competitiveness. We will be their international risk experts, ready to help them make the jump when the opportunity arises.

What is the MMGB team and Why is it important?

EDC is focused on improving Canada’s competitiveness on a global scale. Mid-sized Canadian companies, in particular, are facing many challenges and business decisions that are limiting their growth. 

We are working with select Canadian mid-market companies in order to deepen our understanding of the most urgent demands of Canadian businesses: Their goals, challenges and where they could use greater support, both financially and non-financially.

Why? To help high-growth Canadian mid-market companies access innovative solutions to accelerate their growth strategy, including tailored services to meet demands. 

Our resources and international business network put us in a unique position to help Canadian businesses overcome challenges. We believe that helping mid-sized companies succeed internationally will be the force that drives Canada’s future prosperity.

How can we potentially help?

We’re working with companies to discover ways we can provide holistic, high-touch service to support their growth plans. We use agile methodology to co-create and iterate solutions which are not otherwise available in the Canadian ecosystem.

To date, we have experimented with the following financial and non-financial solutions:

  • International Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Raising growth capital
  • Bridge financing between equity rounds
  • Guidance and business advice relating to international trade and entering new markets
  • Strategic introductions to both Canadian partners as well as high potential international companies

Most importantly, we want to address gaps that fast scaling mid-market companies are experiencing. We know that no two companies are scaling in the same way and we want to hear about your company’s barriers to growth and unique needs.
